Trumpet Lessons in Sydney’s Inner West
I give trumpet lessons in the Inner West of Sydney. I am based in Petersham. I only do “house-calls” and online lessons. My trumpet students are mostly school students and are in Petersham, Stanmore, Annandale and Marrickville.
My Approach To Trumpet Lessons
Every student is different. Their uniqueness demands a unique approach. Nevertheless, there are fundamentals specific to the trumpet that need to be addressed and these apply to every student of the trumpet.
Why Learn To Play The Trumpet?
The trumpet is an exciting instrument. No other instrument matches its brilliance and effulgence. Whether played in the idiom of jazz, classical or rock, the trumpet’s intensity and brashness is unmatched.
Some Of The Trumpet Greats
Maynard Ferguson (1928 – 2006) was famous for playing in the extreme high register and combining big band jazz with rock music.
Dizzy Gillespie (1917 – 1993) was famous for inventing a new style of jazz called “bebop”, playing with his cheeks puffing out as if he was a bullfrog, and playing a trumpet with a bell that angled up at 45 degrees.
Maurice Andre (1933 – 2012) was famous for his performances of Baroque music and his expertise on the piccolo trumpet.
Where To Start
The longer I teach the trumpet, the bigger fan I become of the AMEB syllabus. “A.M.E.B.” stands for the Australia Music Examinations Board. It’s well structured and well thought out, with excellent resources available. Here is a link to the AMEB’s trumpet page –
